Opportunities, collaboration, and funding pathways.

Overview

Work With EXTEND Lab

We welcome students, visiting scholars, funding partners, and industry collaborators who want to build intelligent systems with us across reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems, edge intelligence, and robotics.

Pathways

Ways to Engage

Collaboration and Funding Partners

We actively seek funding partners and industry collaborators to support motivated students and enable impactful, cross-disciplinary research in intelligent systems, edge computing, and autonomous robotics.

Prospective Graduate Students

We welcome highly motivated MPhil and PhD applicants with strong interest in RL, MARL, MAS, edge intelligence, and robotics.

  • Students from HKUST(GZ) thrust areas including AI, ROAS, DSA, and IoT are encouraged to apply.
  • Applications through the Red Bird MPhil/PhD Program and other interdisciplinary pathways are also welcome.

Undergraduate Students

Motivated undergraduate students from HKUST(GZ) and HKUST Clear Water Bay are welcome to join our research projects.

  • The UG Research Program is a strong entry point for hands-on research experience.
  • Directed Study Projects are also encouraged for students interested in intelligent algorithms and autonomous systems.

Visiting PhD Students and Scholars

We are open to hosting visiting PhD students and scholars from around the world whose interests align with the lab.

  • Preferred topics include RL, MARL, MAS, edge intelligence, and robotics.
  • We can support visitors whose research plans closely match the group's ongoing work.

Visiting

Application Materials

  • CV
  • Cover letter
  • Research plan focused on RL, MARL, MAS, edge intelligence, or robotics
  • Language proficiency certificate, if applicable
  • One reference letter, if available

What We Provide

For applicants whose interests are a strong match, we can provide a conditional invitation letter to support funding or scholarship applications.

We may also share an informal paperwork guide to help visiting scholars navigate administrative processes at HKUST(GZ).
